Cards Finish Third at Michigan Intercollegiate

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women’s cross country team placed third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championship on Friday. The Cardinals finished third behind Grand Valley State and Ferris State. The Cardinals finished the course with an average time of 23:50.1.
Leading the women was Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) who finished in 4th place overall with a time of 22:20. Nicole Schmidt (Livonia, Mich. /Churchill) finished next for the Cards with a 17th place finish with a time of 23:35. Ashley Gardynik (Howell, Mich.) and Jenny Phelan (Horton, Mich./Hanover-Horton ) finished 21st and 23rd respectively; with times of 24:13.4 and 24:15.4. Finishing out for the Cards was Jenny Bellsky (Frankenmuth, Mich.) with a time of 24:46.5. (Results)

Cards Finish Tenth out of 27 Schools at Loyola

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State women's cross country squad finished tenth out of 27 teams at the Loyola Lakefront in the Maroon Division. A total of 310 runners competed in the race and sophomore Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) finished sixth overall with a time of 18:37. Jenny Phelan (Horton, Mich./Hanover-Horton) finished 35th with a time of 19:38. Freshman Nicole Schmidt (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) was 64th at 20:13. Rudey Claims Second at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Sophomore Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) placed second on Friday at the Ferris State Bulldog Invite with a time of 18:40 as she has placed in the top five in three of four meets this fall. Freshman Nicole Schmidt (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) was the next Cardinal to cross at 19:19 and claimed 17th individually. Sophomore Jenny Phelan (Horton, Mich./Hanover-Horton) was six spots behind in 23rd at 19:27. Freshman Ashley Gardynik (Howell, Mich.) placed 30th with a time of 19:43. (Results)

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Sophomore Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) placed 19th at the Michigan State Open on Friday and was the top Division II finisher with a time of 22:10. Next for the Cardinals was freshman Nicole Schmidt (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) who placed 39th at 23:20. Jenny Phelan (Horton, Mich./Hanover-Horton) placed 46th at 23:41. (Results)

Cards Claim Top Five Spots at Northwood Open

MIDLAND, Mich. – Sophomore Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) led a strong group of SVSU runners on Friday at the Northwood Open as she claimed first at 18:33 in the 5K race. Nicole Schmidt (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) was a distant second at 19:28. Jenny Phelan (Horton, Mich./Hanover-Horton) finished third for the second straight meet at 19:51. Ashley Gardynik (Howell, Mich.) came in at fourth in 20:06 and Jenny Bellsky (Frankenmuth, Mich.) was fifth at 20:11 for the Cardinals. (Results)

Cards Start Strong at SVSU Invitational

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State Cardinals competed against Schoolcraft College on Friday at the SVSU Invitational and won the dual meet by a margin of 30 points with SVSU collecting 15 team points. The first six finishers wore red and white led by sophomore Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) who ran the 6K race in a time of 23:50. Following just behind was freshman Nicole Schmidt (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) in second place with a time of 24:57. Team Recognized for Academics

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team has been named to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association 2004 All-Academic Team. In order to achieve this honor, the cumulative grade point average of the team must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Cardinal harriers accumulated a team GPA of 3.390.

Cardinals Conclude Season with Awards Banquet


UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams held their annual season ending banquet on Monday (November 8). Head coach Jim Nesbitt was pleased to announce award winners for both the men's and women's teams. Freshman Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) earned Team MVP honors for the women's squad. (MORE)

Cardinals Take Fourth at GLIAC Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s and women’s cross country squads competed at the GLIAC Championships on Saturday (October 23), with the men finishing in fourth place and the women coming home with an eleventh-place showing.  Freshman Becca Rudey
(Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) led the Cardinals with a 45th-place finish (24:08.2). (MORE)
