Cards Compete in GLIAC Championships

Ashland, Ohio – The SVSU cross country teams finished-up their 2001 GLIAC season with the running of the GLIAC Championships held in Ashland, Ohio on Saturday. The Cardinals finished eighth in the women's division, with the men taking home ninth place.
     Top finishers for the Lady Cardinals were: Rikki Owczarak (Bay City/Western) (38th) , Diane Johnston (40th) (Grand Blanc), and Sarah Johnston (42nd)(Grand Blanc). The Cardinal men were paced by Mike Irwin (Lapeer/West), who finished 42nd, with Mark Crews (Bay City/Western)(43rd), Pedro Ortega (48th)(Saginaw/Swan Valley), Tim Watkins (51st)(New Boston/Riverview Gabriel Richard), and Rob Samborn (53th)(Bay City/Western) following his lead.
     The NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regionals are next on the schedule for the Cardinals. The meet will be held November 3 in Kenosha, Wisc.
