Cross Country in Chicago

Chicago, Ill. – SVSU's cross country teams were in the windy city on Saturday, competing in the Chicago-Lakeshore Invitational. The meet was hosted by Loyola University-Chicago and featured many of the top division II schools in the region as well as a few division I programs.
     In the division II women's event, the Cardinals finished tenth behind Diane Johnston's (Grand Blanc) 35th place finish overall. Also placing were: Meagan Strohkirch (Gladwin)(42nd), Sarah Johnston (Grand Blanc)(51st), Rikki Owczarak (Bay City/Western) (52nd), and Heather Kersjes (Corunna)(109th).
     On the men's side, SVSU placed 13th out of 27 teams. Top finishers for the Cardinals were: Pedro Ortega (Saginaw/Swan Valley)(52nd), Mark Crews (Bay City/Western)(67th), Mohammed Waite (East Lansing)(73rd), Tim Watkins (New Boston/Riverview Gabriel Richard)(84th), and Rob Samborn (Bay City/Western)(86th).
     The team's will next compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships, held in Kensington Park, Michigan on Friday, October 12.
