Men and Women Each Take Home Third

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – In what has become standard operating procedure for the cross country teams, the men took home the same place as the women once again at the Bulldog Open in Big Rapids on Friday. This marks the third time that both teams have finished with the same place this season in three races (SVSU Invite- 1st, Northwood Invite- 1st).
     Michelle Klein of Spring Arbor College won the women's 5,000 meter event with a time of 19:11.00. Top finishers for the Cardinals included Meagan Strohkirch (Gladwin) and Rikki Owczarak,(Bay City/Western) who finished fifth and sixth respectively.
     In the men's event, Dan Kasprowicz of Aquinas College reached the 8,000 meter finish first in 26:00.00, as Aquinas took home team firsts in both events. Pedro Ortega (Saginaw/Swan Valley) finished ninth for the Cardinals, with Mike Irwin (Lapeer West) 18th and Tim Watkins (New Boston/Riverview Gabriel Richard) finishing 22nd.
     The Cardinals will take a weekend off next week before travelling to Chicago on Friday, September 30 to compete in the Chicago Lakeshore Invitational, hosted by Loyola University.
