                                      Cardinal Start Season 2-0

University Center, Mich.- The lady Cardinals began the 2002 season with a 5-4 victory over Lake Superior State University on Friday (Sept. 6). On Saturday the Redbirds defeated Michigan Tech 6-3 for their second victory in as many days. The Cardinals won four singles points and took two of three in doubles to move their record to 2-0 on the season.
    In doubles, the tandem of Samantha Dodson (Frankenmuth, Mich.) and Nikki Schwarz (Battle Creek, Mich.) won an 8-5 contest, while the No. 3 doubles team of Brooke Kennedy (Walled Lake, Mich./Western HS) and Holly Halvatgis (Anchorage, Alas.) were 8-3 winners.
    In singles action, Scwartz wore down the Huskies Mary Blake in the top flight, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Andrea Prociv (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi HS), Cassie Jastrzebski (Fraser, Mich.), and Kennedy were all straight-set winners over the Huskies.
    The Cardinals look to improve their 2-0 record on Sunday (Sept. 8) at 10 a.m. when the Birds host the Wildcats of Northern Michigan.
