                                      Cardinal Edge Lakers In Season Opener

University Center, Mich.- The lady Cardinals began the 2002 season with a 5-4 victory over Lake Superior State University on Friday (Sept. 6). The Cardinals won three singles points and took two of three in doubles to move their record to 1-0 on the season.
    In doubles the tandem of Samantha Dodson (Frankenmuth, Mich.) and Nikki Schwarz (Battle Creek, Mich.) won a quick 8-3 contest, while the No. 1 doubles team of Jennifer Spence (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) and Andrea Prociv (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi HS) were 8-6 winners.
    In singles action, Scwartz was too much for the Lakers Mary Blake in the top flight, winning 6-0, 6-0. At the fourth flight, Dodson won in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-3 over Kelli Hammond of LSSU. The match came down to the final contest, which saw the Cardianls' Cassie Jastrzebski (Fraser, Mich.) come from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, over the Lakers Tiffany Vanbeek.
    SVSU will be in action on Saturday (Sept. 7) at 10 a.m. when the Cardinals host Michigan Tech.
