Cardinals
Sign Two For 2005
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.- Saginaw Valley State University women's
tennis coach Mike Major has announced the signing of Danielle Coldren
and Jackie Feurt to National Letters of Intent to compete for the
Cardinals beginning in the fall of 2005. Coldren played her high
school tennis at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, while Feurt competed for
Flint Carman-Ainsworth High School.
Coldren played first singles for Notre
Dame during the 2004 season, compiling a 15-12 overall record. Her
top finishes include third place at the Troy Athens Tournament,
third place in the Catholic League Tournament and a second place
finish in her regional tournament. The regional showing allowed
her to qualify for the MHSAA state finals. She was also named to
the All-Catholic League team and earned her team's Fighting Irish
Award as the team MVP.
During her junior season, Coldren
played third singles. She compiled an overall record of 19-6 and
was named the team's Most Improved Player. Top finishes included
first place at the Warren Mott Tournament, second place at both
the Troy Athens and Catholic League tournaments, and third place
at the Royal Oak Tournament. She was named to the All-Catholic League
team following the season.
Feurt was a four-year varsity performer
at Carman-Ainsworth, competing at first singles during her junior
and senior seasons and serving as team captain. She earned team
Most Valuable Player during both years and was a state finals qualifier
after placing second in the regional tournament at the conclusion
of her junior and seniors seasons. She was also named the the All-Big
Nine Conferense First Team both years after finishing second in
the conference tournament.
During her sophomore season, Feurt
competed at secon singles, earning All-Big Nine Conference Second
Team honors and winning the team Coaches Award. Her freshman season
was spent playing fourth singles and taking first place at the conference
tournament and the regional tournament. She earned All-Big Nine
Conference Honorable Mention status, as well as the Carman-Ainsworth
Most Valuable Player award at the conclusion of the season.
Both players will add depth to an
already talented squad in the fall of 2005.
