Cardinals Rally to Quarterfinals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - SVSU women's tennis doubles tandem of senior Jennifer Spence (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) and freshman Andrea Prociv (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi HS) advanced to the third round of the Omni Hotels Great Lakes Region Championships on Friday with a 9-7 victory over Northern Michigan's Heidi Ehlers and Agata Gotowicz. The Cardinal pair however lost to the ninth seeded duo of Laura Matzka and Aijana Otunchieva from Michigan Tech, 8-4 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
    Spence and Prociv, seeded 13, also disposed of Ashland's Lauren Knasel and Gina Sprague, 8-3 in first round action. Junior Samantha Dodson (Frankenmuth, Mich.) and sophomore Brooke Kennedy (Walled Lake, Mich./Western HS) dropped their opening match to Southern Indiana's
Kathleen Davis and Nicole Freyberger, 8-3.
    In second round singles action, the Cardinal's Spence fell to Ashley Ree's of Southern Indiana, 6-2, 6-3. Kennedy, who was seeded 49th also dropped a round two match to University of Indianapolis' Gayal Jones 6-3, 6-0.
    Play continues through Sunday.
