Michigan Tech Nips SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Michigan Tech University nipped Saginaw Valley State University Thursday on the SVSU Tennis Courts, 5-4.
     The teams split the six singles flights, but the Huskies took the top two doubles matches to pull out the win.
     Singles winners for SVSU were: junior Dawn Thomas (Port Huron/Northern) at No. 1 singles over Laura Matcka, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4; sophomore Jennifer Spence (Saginaw/Heritage) at No. 4 over Lisa Graham, 6-4, 7-5; and senior Heidi Yeagly (Flushing) at No. 5 over Deb Watt, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
     The Lady Cardinal No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Jennifer Roy (Byron, GA,/Peach County) and Yeagley topped Watt and Kari O'Dell, 8-6.
     SVSU fell to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the GLIAC, while the Huskies improved to 3-1 and 2-1.
     The Cardinals host Lake Superior State University at 3 p.m. Friday and Northern Michigan University visits SVSU on Sunday at 10 a.m.
