Doubles Play Lifts SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Saginaw Valley State University defeated Grand Rapids Community College 7-2 in an exhibition match on the SVSU Tennis Courts Monday.
     The Lady Cardinals won all three doubles flights, prompting coach Jim Teal to say "Our doubles teams played as well as they have all year. (GRCC) has very good doubles teams."
     Singles winners for SVSU were sophomore Meghan LaForrest (Bay City/Central) at No. 2, sophomore Jennifer Spence (Saginaw/Heritage) at No. 3, senior Heidi Yeagly (Flushing) at No. 4, and freshman Cassie Jastrzebski (Fraser) at No. 6.
     Spence teamed with junior Dawn Thomas (Port Huron/Northern) at No. 1 doubles, while LaForrest and freshman Samantha Dodson (Frankenmuth) won at No. 2, and Yeagley and Jastrzebski won at No. 3.
     The Cardinals host three Upper Peninsula teams later this week in a trio of GLIAC matches. Michigan Tech University visits Thursday for a noon contest, Lake Superior State University is in for a 3 p.m. tussle on Friday, and Northern Michigan University visits SVSU on Sunday at 10 a.m.
