Lady Cardinals Whip Findlay

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Saginaw Valley State University improved to 2-1 in the GLIAC with a convincing 8-1 victory over the University of Findlay Sunday.
     SVSU junior Dawn Thomas (Port Huron/Northern) won at No. 1 singles, beating Laura Pritts, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Jennifer Roy (Byron, GA,/Peach County) won at No. 3 singles by a 6-4, 6-2 margin over Lacy Roder.
     Sophomore Jennifer Spence (Saginaw/Heritage) took the No. 4 singles match over Summer Denlinger, 6-0, 6-2. Senior Heidi Yeagly (Flushing) beat Alison Welly, 6-0, 6-4 and senior Pearla Siasoyco (Perris, CA) topped Mika Noda, 6-1, 6-1.
     SVSU won all three doubles flights. Thomas and Spence beat Pritts and Nifwander, 8-1 at No. 1. Sophomore Meghan LaForrest (Bay City/Central) and freshman Samantha Dodson (Frankenmuth) beat Roder/Welly at No. 2, 8-4, and Roy/Siasoyco topped Denlinger/Noda 8-1.
     "No. 1 doubles was our best match," said head coach Jim Teal. "Dawn played well and they played well together. This was a good win for us and it was nice to see some wins at the top of our lineup."
     The Cardinals host local rival Northwood University Friday at 2 p.m.
