Roy's Goal in Double OT Gives SVSU 2-1 Win over Gannon

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Cards and Golden Knights battled for over 100 minutes on Sunday and in the end freshman Stephanie Roy (Royal Oak, Mich./Dondero) improved SVSU to 2-0 in the GLIAC with a 2-1 double overtime win over Gannon. Roy's goal also improved SVSU to 4-3-1 overall and was assisted by Sestina Scerbo (Windsor, Ont.). Sophomore Ginny Cates (Fenton, Mich.) staked the Cards to a 1-0 lead at 67:11 unassisted and Gannon tied things on a Tiffany Ebner goal with 3:19 left in regulation. The Cards owned a 20-7 advantage on shots and had ten shots on goal. (Stats)

Pruitt Named GLIAC Player of the Week

BAY CITY , Mich. - Junior Kelly Pruitt (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) helped SVSU to a 4-2 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday with two goals including the game-winner at 75:41 off a corner kick...Pruitt upped her season total to three goals and also scored the match's first goal at 6:37 unassisted.

Cards Two Late Goals Give Them 4-2 Win over Mercyhurst

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women’s soccer team played hard all game, and it paid off late in their contest against the Lakers.
Saginaw Valley went up 2-0 very quickly with goals by Kelly Pruitt (Shelby Twp., Mich.) and Tammie Edmunds (Shelby Twp., Mich.). Their lead however diminished before they went into halftime with two goals by Mercyhurst. With less than fifteen minutes left in the game the Cards took the lead with another goal by Kelly Pruitt. Three minutes later they added onto their lead with Tammie Edmunds second goal of the game. The Cardinal’s lead held up the last twelve minutes to help propel them to victory over the Lakers 4-2.
The win moves the Cardinals to 3-2-1 on the year (1-0 GLIAC), while Mercyhurst plummets to 6-2 (0-1 GLIAC). SVSU plays their next game on Oct. 1st at 3:00 pm against Wheeling Jesuit.

LaLond makes nine saves in 2-0 loss at SIU-Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Saginaw Valley Cards ran into a tough SIU-Edwardsville team on Sunday and dropped a 2-0 decision. Junior Stacy LaLond (Cheboygan, Mich.) had nine saves in goal for the Cards. SIUE outshot SVSU, 20-5, for the match as Kayla Fromme scored both goals for SIUE. The Cardinals had four shots on goal as Tammie Edmunds (Shelby Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) recorded two shots on goal. Pair of Freshmen Lead Cards past Olivet Nazarene, 3-1

KANKAKEE, Ill. - The Cardinals improved to 2-1-1 with a 3-1 win at Olivet Nazarene on Thursday. Freshman Stephanie Roy (Royal Oak, Mich./Dondero) had the game-winning goal with 20 minutes left and also assisted on an insurance goal with one minute to play. Freshman Kimberly Oberski (Port Huron, Mich.) added two goals to increase her total to five goals on the season. She scored at the 9:10 mark unassisted off a deflection from the keeper and also scored at 88:59 on a breakaway goal. SVSU had 10 shots on goal and outshot Olivet Nazarene, 20-9, for the match. Cates' Notches First Career Goal in 1-1 Tie at St. Joseph's

RENSSELAER, Ind. - Sophomore midfielder Ginny Cates (Fenton, Mich.) gave SVSU a 1-0 lead at 35:51 on an unassisted goal and St. Joseph's responded with a goal by Olivia Klosterman at 66:01 as the teams tied 1-1 after two overtimes. Junior Stacy LaLond (Cheboygan, Mich.) made nine saves and is posting a 0.93 GAA this season. SVSU tallied 22 shots as a team with Kimberly Oberski (Port Huron, Mich.) recording eight shots. (Stats)

Oberski's Hat Trick Lifts SVSU to 5-1 win over Shepherd

UNIVERSITY CENTER , Mich. - Freshman Kimberly Oberski (Port Huron, Mich.) erupted for three goals on Sunday in a 5-1 win over Shepherd University. She tallied two goals in the first half and added another tally with 25 minutes left in the match. SVSU managed 19 shots and 11 shots on goal. Senior Crystal Meacham (Marysville, Mich.) and junior Kelly Pruitt (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) also scored for the Cardinals. (Stats)

Cards Drop 1-0 Decision in Season Opener

UNIVERSITY CENTER , Mich. - The SVSU Cardinals dropped a 1-0 decision to Rockhurst on Saturday in their season opener. Jennifer Whiteley scored the game's lone goal in the 34th minute with an assist from Katy Vogt. Stacy LaLond had five saves in net for SVSU and the team managed five shots on goal.
