Lady Cardinals Fall to Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. - The Saginaw Valley State women's soccer team dropped a 7-0 decsion to Mercyhurst College on Saturday (October 19).
     Mercyhurst bolted out to a 4-0 halftime lead and never looked back. The Lakers opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a goal from Jessica Morgan, coming on an assist from Katie Dobson. Julie Brickman added an unassisted goal during the 6th minute. Melissa Poliseno struck next with two goals, coming during the 22nd and 23rd minutes, respectively. Poliseno's first score came on another assist from Dobson, while she finished the first half scoring on a penalty kick.
     The second half saw the Lakers add three unassisted goals. Julia Kowzan found the back of the net during the 53rd minute, Elin Minge in the 83rd minute, and Brooke White during the 88th minute to finish the game's scoring. The Cardinals managed only 11 shots, while the Lakers managed 21. SVSU goaltender Linde McCubbin (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) left the game during the 8th minute due to injury, hurting the Cardinals' defensive efforts.
     Saginaw Valley drops to 2-12-1 (0-4-1 GLIAC), while Mercyhurst moves to 10-2-2 (3-0-1 GLIAC). The Cardinals finish up their road trip with a 12:00p.m. game against Gannon University on Sunday (October 20).
