Cardinals Down Salem International 2-0

Salem W.Va. – The SVSU Lady Cardinals Soccer Team defeated Salem International on Sunday (September 2) 2-0 behind a strong performance by Krista St. Aubin (Utica) and Linde McCubbin (Saginaw/Heritage). St. Aubin scored the game's first goal just eight minutes into the contest on a wild scramble in front of the Salem net. Ten minutes later, St. Aubin set up Erin Szarolota (Lake Orion) for the Cardinals' second goal.
McCubbin recorded her first shutout of the season, after finishing 2000 with five shutouts.
"It was a good weekend for us to come down here and get our first win under our belt," said Cardinal head coach Jim Conner. "The team really pulled together and was able to put together a complete effort. I was especially pleased with our defense which yielded only one shot on goal."
The win moves the Cardinals to 1-3 on the season. SVSU will travel to Marquette, Mich, next weekend (Saturday September 8-9) to participate in the Northern Michigan University tournament. The Cardinals take on Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday and square off against Northern State Sunday.
