Cardinals Fall to West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – SVSU's women's soccer team faced their third straight top 25 team on Friday, losing 4-0 amid rainy conditions. The Bobcats tallied two goals in each half to record their first win (1-1) on the young season. The Cardinals have now been shutout in all three games so far this season, but coach Jim Conner is optimistic about what he sees.
"We've been playing some of the best teams in the nation," said Conner. "We're just making some mistakes on the field and good teams will punish you for those mistakes. We've shown streaks of brilliance and if we can just string those streak together, we'll be in shape for the start of our GLIAC season. I'm extremely proud of our no quit squad."
Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Currie (Toronto, ONT) started in goal for the Cardinals. In the second half, sophomore Linde McCubbin (Saginaw/Heritage) saw her first action since being injured in the Cardinals' game against Northern Kentucky last Sunday. Both net-minders were hampered with sloppy conditions, making the ball very slippery.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 0-3 and they will stay on the road to duel Salem International on Sunday at 1p.m.
