Nationally-Ranked Norse Defeat SVSU 4-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – SVSU's women's soccer team faced a formidable opponent in Northern Kentucky University, dropping a 4-0 decision on Sunday. The NKU Norse were fresh off an impressive 10-0 win over Northwood on Friday. NKU got on the board early with a goal by Jeanna Martin just 4:07 into the match. The Cardinals were able to fend off the powerful Norse attack, but NKU proved to be too much. "We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend," said SVSU coach Jim Conner. "This is why we schedule these types of games. We played against some very good competition and really challenged ourselves at certain positions." The Cardinals fall to 0-2 on the season while NKU improves to 2-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Linde McCubbin (Saginaw/Heritage) left the match with a neck injury mid-way through the first half. Sophomore goalie Morgan Currie (Pickering/Canada) saw her first action of the season and tallied six saves. In the first match of the day, Lewis University (Ill.) defeated Northwood 1-0 to improve to 2-0 in the Cardinal classic. SVSU will play its next six matches on the road with their next contest on Friday (August 31) at West Virginia Wesleyan. The Cardinals return to action at home on Wednesday, September 26 against Siena Heights at 3:30 pm.
