Cardinal Offense Comes Alive in 4-1 Victory Over Gannon

University Center, Mich. – SVSU's offense has been a mystery so far this season. On Saturday, the Cardinals were shutout for the eighth time this season. But, on Sunday, four different Cardinals scored to help SVSU defeat Gannon University 4-1.
"Finally," sighed coach Jim Conner, whose team had not scored more than two goals in a match all season.
Senior Liz Elliott (South Bend/Clay) got the Cardinals on the board first, just six minutes into the contest, plugging one past Gannon goalkeeper Wittney King. The Cards would tally two more quick goals in the next ten minutes by Sheri Weston (Jackson/Lumen Christi) and Krista St. Aubin (Utica). Leslie Amendola (Toronto, ONT) followed 22 minutes later with her second goal of the season, staking SVSU to a comfortable 4-0 lead at halftime. Gannon pushed home their only goal early in the second half, as Elisha Busch pushed one past SVSU goalkeeper Linde McCubbin (Saginaw/Heritage), who stopped 9 of 10 shots.
The win marks the first time that the women's program has defeated a Gannon University squad. The win also notched the first GLIAC win for the Cardinals this season, pushing their mark to 1-5 and 3-12 overall. The Cards will next play on October 26 against rival Northwood University.
