The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team lost their last game of the season on Sunday afternoon to the nationally ranked Northern Kentucky, 3-0.
Saginaw Valley had 3 shots, 2 on goal, vs Northern Kentucky who had 22 shots, 15 on goal.
Senior goalie Katie Foster (Saginaw/Arthur Hill) had 12 outstanding saves for the Lady Cardinals.
"We played an extremely hard match on a huge field. I am very proud of my team and I thought that they adjusted very well," commented SVSU head coach Jim Conner. "Even though our record shows more loses than wins, you have to look at our schedule and see the teams we had to play against this season. I think that the team played very solid soccer against those more difficult teams."
Saginaw Valley's four seniors, Foster, Michelle Hus, Summer Dykhuizen, and Audra Forsberg, played their last game this afternoon against Northern Kentucky.
The Lady Cardinals end their season with a record of 5-13 overall and 2-8 in the GLIAC.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team dropped a close decision on Saturday afternoon to nationally ranked Lincoln Memorial University, 2-0
The game was scoreless at halftime, but Lincoln Memorial struck back in the second half with two unanswered goals to make the final 2-0.
The Lady Cardinals had 6 shots, 3 on goal, vs Lincoln Memorial who had twenty shots, 10 on goal.
Senior goalie Katie Foster (Saginaw/Arthur Hill) played the first half, allowing no goals and making a perfect 5 saves, vs 5 shots. Sophomore goalie Jenny Thomas (Linden) took over in the second half allowing two goals and making five saves.
"We played some of the best soccer we have played all year," commented SVSU head coach Jim Conner. "We played hard and didn't quit, losing only 2-0 shows me that our program is coming along, and we can play with the best of them."
Saginaw Valley drops to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the GLIAC. The Lady Cardinals will play their last game of the season Sunday, October 31, 1999 at Northern Kentucky, at noon.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team dropped a close decision on Sunday afternoon to the University of Findlay, by a score of 6-4.
Findlay opened the scoring in the first half. The lady Cardinals struck back with 19:25 left in the first half to tie the game with a goal by junior Courtney Nash (Mason) in result of a direct kick.
Findlay would score two more goals before the end of the first half, taking a 3-1 lead at halftime.
SVSU started off the second half with a goal by freshman Julie Valentine (Lapeer/West), off an assist from Nash, with 42:37 left to play. Findlay came back, scoring two more goals in the middle of the second half. Valentine went on to score an unassisted goal with 5:24 left to play.
Freshman Jessica Sweers (Clio) scored the Lady Cardinals last goal with help from Valentine, while 4:20 remained in the game. However, Findlay would score the last goal of the game, making the final 6-4.
"This is one of those games where the last person with the ball wins, and they had the ball", commented SVSU head coach Jim Conner. "We had some excellent efforts from some non-starters filling in for key players due to injury's and illnesses".
The Lady Cardinals drop to 5-11 overall and 2-8 in the GLIAC. SVSU will be back in action on Saturday, October 30th at Lincoln Memorial University, TN at 12:30 p.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team ended a two-game losing skid with a 3-0 win over visiting IUPU-Fort Wayne in a non-league contest.
The Lady Cardinals opened the scoring at the 18:08 mark of the first half on a blast by junior Carrie Loveland (Grand Blanc), with an assist from freshman Sheri Weston (Jackson/Lumen Christi).
Saginaw Valley raised the score to 2-0 with 9:27 remaining in the half on a shot from sophomore Jaclyn Sweers (Clio) of a pass from sophomore Kyrra Springer (Linden).
The freshman combination of Julie Valentine (Lapeer/West) and Kristie King (Lake Orion) teamed up for the final goal as King's pass allowed Valentine to beat the Mastadon goal keeper.
"I thought we were a little cautious in taking on this first-year program," said SVSU head coach Jim Conner. "We dominated this team but only converted three times."
The Lady Cardinals got solid play in goal from sophomore Jenny Thomas (Linden). Thomas saved both shots that were fired at here as the SVSU defense only allowed three shots for the contest.
Saginaw Valley improves to 5-10 on the season and will be in action on Sunday, October 24th at the University of Findlay. Match time is 12:30 p.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon, losing in double overtime to Westminster college by the score of 3-2.
Westminster opened the scoring at the 30:13 mark of the first half. The Lady Cardinals then responded with two goals by freshman Julie Valentine (Lapeer West). The first of Valentine's goals was scored at the 18:19 of the first half, with an assist by sophomore Christie Warren (Linden). The second goal was scored at 24:23 of the second half, with sophomore Jackie Sweers (Clio) picking up an assist.
Westminster then scored quickly at 23:36 to tie the game, and then scored again at 10:49 of the second overtime to win the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Thomas (Linden) had 7 saves for Saginaw Valley.
"To lose in two overtimes is very tough" said head coach Jim Conner. "We had control of the match, and when we went up 2-1, we could have put it away. Westminster regained the momentum when they were able to counter our second goal."
SVSU falls to 4-10 overall, 2-7 in the GLIAC. The next game for the Lady Cardinals is Tuesday, October 19th, when they play IUPU-Fort Wayne. Game time is 2:00 p.m.

Saginaw Valley State University opened a three-game home stand with a 1-0 loss to Northwood University.
Sophomore Michelle Hunt (Bellevue, WA/Newport) scored at the 32:32 mark of the first half on an assist from sophomore Theresa Albaceli (Warren/Bishop Foley) for the only goal of the game.
The Lady Cardinals had opportunities to tie the game, but failed to convert on the rain-soaked field. "I was pleased with our overall effort and we played some very effective team defense," said coach Jim Conner. "We had at least seven opportunities which should have been converted to goals. We were one-on-one with their goalie at least three times and failed to score."
SVSU had 10 shots, including four on goal, but Sherri Ingham (Shelby Township/Eisenhower) handed the Cards their fourth shutout of the season. The Timberwolves had 11 shots and sophomore Jenny Thomas (Linden) had four saves in goal for SVSU
Northwood improved to 11-5 overall and 3-4 in the GLIAC, while the Cardinals fell to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the league.
The Lady Cardinals host Westminster College Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team ended their six game losing streak on Saturday afternoon by defeating Northern Michigan University, 3-1
Junior Carrie Loveland (Grand Blanc) scored two goals, and picked up an assist on a goal by freshman Sheri Weston (Jackson/Lumen Christi). Loveland became the all-time leading scorer for Saginaw Valley with the second goal.
SVSU was in control of the game throughout, out-shooting the Wildcats 26-10. Sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Thomas (Linden) was forced to make only 2 saves for the Lady Cardinals.
Saginaw Valley's record improves to 4-8 overall, 2-5 in the GLIAC. The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Wednesday, October 13th, when they take on Northwood University. Match time is 4:00 p.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team dropped its sixth straight contest in losing a 2-0 decision to Grand Valley State University on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Cardinals fought to a scoreless halftime tie as they struggled to muster up any offense. SVSU was out shot by the Lady Lakers 25-1 in the contest and surrendered 18 shots on goal while only placing one ball on net themselves.
"We played some outstanding soccer today," said Lady Cardinal head coach Jim Conner. "We made two defensive errors and they made us pay for both of them."
The lone bright spot for the Lady Cardinals was the play of sophomore goal keeper Jenny Thomas (Linden) who tied a school record by saving 16 shots.
Saginaw Valley falls to 3-8 on the season, 1-5 in GLIAC play. The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Saturday, October 9th when the squad travels to Midland for a match against rival Northwood University. Match time is 11 a.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to nationally-ranked Ashland University by the score of 5-0 at the SVSU Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.
Ashland, ranked fourth nationally, got on the scoreboard early when Kristy Richie scored the first of her three goals at the 40:15 mark of the first half.
Richie struck again with 5:15 remaining in the half, making the score 2-0. Richie completed the hat trick with a blast nearly 10 minutes into the second half to put the Lady Eagles up 3-0. Ashland's final two goals came from Emily Hallman and Shanna Stosall who scored at the 20:10 mark and 15:15 mark of the second half, respectively.
"We came away with a solid effort against one of the top teams in the country," stated Lady Cardinal head coach Jim Conner. "I am extremely proud of the play of our team today. We did not quit even when we were down by four goals."
Saginaw Valley drops to 3-4, 1-1 in the GLIAC. The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Saturday, October 2. The match will begin at 1 p.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team lost today to Olivet college by the score of 4-0.
SVSU trailed by the score of 2-0 at the half, and then gave up two more goals in the second half to lose by four.
Saginaw Valley only managed one shot for the whole game, which was not on goal. Olivet, on the other hand, had 21 shots, 11 of which were on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Thomas (Linden) made 7 saves for the Lady Cardinals.
Saginaw Valley is now 3-3 overall, 1-0 in the GLIAC. The next game for the Lady Cardinals is Saturday, September 25, when they host Ashland. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated Ferris State University in their first GLIAC win on Saturday Afternoon, by a score of 1-0.
This was Ferris State's inaugural game for their soccer program. Saginaw Valley's lone goal came from junior Carrie Loveland(Grand Blanc) in the first half an assist from sophomore Elizabeth Elliott(South Bend/Clay).
Saginaw Valley sophomore goal keeper Jenny Thomas (Linden) had another great performance, picking up the shutout while making 5 saves.
"We had difficulty adjusting to their artificial turf, but we hung in their on defense and totally dominated the game", commented SVSU head coach Jim Conner.
Saginaw Valley is now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC. They resume play tomorrow at Olivet College at 3:30 p.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team scored one of the largest wins in the program's history, defeating Alma College on Thursday afternoon by the score of 10-0.
Saginaw Valley freshman forward Sheri Weston (Jackson/Lumen Christi) started the scoring barrage just 2:20 into the match with a blast from top right of the box with an assist from Jessica Sweers (Clio). It would be the first of two goals on the day for Weston. Freshman forward Kristie King (Lake Orion) then scored the first of her three first-half goals just four minutes later, off a pass from junior Courtney Nash (Mason). King also picked up an assist later in the game.
A total of seven Lady Cardinals scored goals in the match. Joining Weston and King on the scoreboard were Lisa Mahoney (Frankenmuth), unassisted; Sweers, with an assist to King; Christie Warrer (Linden), unassisted; Jamie Swanson (Clio), assisted by Nash; and Julie Valentine (Lapeer/West), assisted by Sommer Schons (Lapeer/East).
"We took control of the match from the opening kick and never let down," stated Lady Cardinal head coach Jim Conner. "To put up 10 goals against a program the quality of Alma's is a real accomplishment."
The Lady Cardinals dominated the game statistically, outshooting Alma 30-8, tallying 16 more shots-on-goal (18-2), and generating seven corner kicks to the Scots' one. Saginaw Valley senior goal keeper Katie Foster (Saginaw/Arthur Hill) turned away both shots she faced and picked up her first shut out of the season.
Saginaw Valley improves to 2-2 on the season while the Scots fall to 2-4. The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Saturday, September 18, when they travel to Big Rapids for a match against Ferris State University.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team dropped a close decision on Saturday afternoon, losing 3-2 to the University of Wisconsin Parkside.
UWP led the game 1-0 at the half on a goal by Briana Juris at the 7:18 mark. The second half saw the game open up, with four goals scored in a span of 17 minutes. SVSU started the second half scoring with a goal by freshman forward Sheri Weston (Jackson/Lumen Christi), assisted by senior Michelle Hus (Avondale/Auburn Hills). Wisconsin-Parkside then scored at the 33:47 mark with a goal by Nicole Wenzel. The Lady Cardinals followed that up with a goal at the 26:36 mark by sophomore forward Christie Warren (Linden) with an assist from Weston. UWP finished the scoring at the 21:52 with another goal by Nicole Wenzel.
"UWP punished us for our mistakes and scored three preventable goals," said SVSU coach Jim Conner. "But this is what you expect from a quality team and Wisconsin Parkside is a quality team." "This was a solid physical test for our team. No one quit until the final whistle."
SVSU's drops to 1-2 on the season, while UWP improves to 4-1. The Lady Cardinals next game is Thursday, September 16, when they play Alma college at home beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team evened their record at 1-1 with a 3-1 victory at home versus Concordia College.
Concordia scored the first goal of the game at the 16:07 mark of the first half off of a direct kick. SVSU responded with a goal by junior Carrie Loveland (Grand Blanc) on a corner kick, with an assist from freshman Lisa Mahoney (Frankenmuth) at 14:03 of the first half. The game was tied 1-1 at the half.
The second half featured two goals for the Lady Cardinals. The first was scored by senior Michelle Hus (Avondale/Auburn Hills)at the 8:15 mark. The final tally of the game was scored once again by Loveland at 1:24.
Saginaw Valley dominated the statistical categories. The Lady Cardinals out shot Concordia 38-7 for the game, and had 15 shots on goal, to Concordia's 2. Sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Thomas (Linden) made 1 save for the Lady Cardinals.
SVSU's next game is Saturday, September 11th when they take on University of Wisconsin-Parkside at home beginning at 12:30.

The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team dropped their opener for the 1999 season with a 3-0 loss at home today versus the University of Indianapolis.
Indianapolis was able to open up a 2-0 lead at the half on goals by Leslie Thomas at 21:53 and Paula Pranger at 16:52. The second half featured one goal, which was scored by Erin Archer at the 14:38 mark. Indianapolis out shot SVSU 23-6, and also outdid Saginaw at shots on goal, 18-3.
"Indianapolis proved to be a very tough match for us. This was their second game, and their match awareness was the difference," said coach Jim Conner. "We played very hard and made a real competitive effort in the second half." Sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Thomas (Linden) played a strong game for SVSU, making 15 saves. SVSU is now 0-1. Their next game is at home Wednesday, September 1st, when they play Concordia College at 4:00 p.m.
