The Saginaw Valley State University women's
basketball team announced its 2000-01 award winners at the 26th Annual
Awards Banquet held March 22 in Curtiss Hall.
Junior Kathryn Williams (Detroit/Martin
Luther King) took home the team's "Most Valuable Player" award. Williams
was the only Cardinal to average double figure scoring with a 14.7 clip,
good for ninth in the GLIAC. She started 22 of 24 games and was third
on the team with 4.2 rebounds per game.
Earning "Most Improved Player" honors was
junior Bridgett Lamar (Ypsilanti), who averaged 7.7 points and 7.0 rebounds
per game. She played in all 26 games and started 17 contests.
Taking home the "Outstanding Defensive Player"
award was junior Jenny White (Oxford). She played in all 26 games, starting
25, and led the team with 7.2 rebounds, 64 steals and 35 three-pointers.
She moved into third on the all-time list for triples with 111 in her
career.
The "Cardinal Award For Academic Excellence"
was presented to sophomore Angie Stewart (Perry), who carries a 3.94 cumulative
grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
Also honored were Cardinal captains Jenny
Brown (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) and Jamie Ehle (Oscoda).
SVSU compiled a 6-20 overall record under
first-year head coach Angela Jackson and finished 4-14 in the GLIAC North
Division.
