SVSU Earns
First Victory, 64-62, Over Warner Southern
LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's
basketball team earned a hard-fought 64-62 win over the host Warner
Southern Royals on Tuesday (Nov. 23). The win marks the first
collegiate win for first year SVSU head coach Yvonne Killmer.
The Cardinals now stand at 1-2 on the young season.
Sophomore captain Lisa Collison
(Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) led the way with a
career-high 19 points for the Cardinals. Freshman Kara
Kinzer (Shelby Twp., Mich./ Eisenhower) followed
up with a career-high 14 points, while sophomore guard Sara
Bilunes (Holt, Mich.) chipped in with 11 points
and team highs of six assists and three steals. Freshman Kali
Briggs (Jackson, Mich./Vandercook Lake) posted
her first career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds,
while also chipping in with a team-high six assists. Senior Jennifer
Hagstrom (Cadillac, Mich.) pulled down a season-high
eight rebounds to aid the Cardinal cause.
The Cardinals now travel to Fort
Lauderdale, where they will take on Barry at 5:00p.m. on Friday
(Nov. 26) in the Nova Southeastern Tournament. SVSU will conclude
its Florida trip with a 5:00p.m. game against Nova Southeastern
on Saturday (Nov. 27).
