Soar Past Rochester College, 95-47

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University women's basketball team took a 24 point lead midway
through the first half and never looked back as they defeated
Rochester College by a final score of 95-47. The Cardinals’
point output is the highest this season and the most since SVSU
earned a 103-34 win over UM-Dearborn during the 2001-02 season.
The Cardinals took a 62-22 lead
into the locker room at the halftime break and did not let Rochester
get any closer than 38 points after the break. The Cardinals’
largest lead was 55 points with four minutes remaining.
Senior Jessica Wilson
(Martin, Tenn./Westview) posted career highs of 23 points,
seven rebounds, six assists and five steals to lead SVSU. Wilson
also set a school record with seven three-point field goals. Sophomore
Sara Bilunes (Holt, Mich.) pitched in
with 19 points and a career-high eight assists, while freshman
Kali Briggs (Jackson, Mich./Vandercook Lake)
dropped in 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Freshman Kara
Kinzer (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower)
tied a career high with 14 points and set new career highs with
four rebounds and four assists. Freshman Domonique Desira
(Northville, Mich.) grabbed a career-high and game-high
11 rebounds to pace the Cardinals.
Rochester College was led by Kristin
Bovee’s 14 points, while Michelle Jackson posted seven points
and six assists.
The Cardinals set a single-game
school record with 13 three-point field goals in 29 attempts.
SVSU shot 49.3 percent (37-of-75) from the field, while holding
RC to just 30.2 percent shooting (19-of-63). The Cardinals also
controlled the boards with a 55-32 advantage.
SVSU improves to 4-6 on the season,
while Rochester College falls to 4-11. The Cardinals return to
action after the winter break with a January 6 trip to Erie, Pa.
to play Mercyhurst College at 6:00p.m.
