CARDS FIGHT
FOR A 71-62 WIN AT NOVA SOUTHEASTERN
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Cardinal women's basketball
team split a pair of games at the Nova Southeastern Tournament
defeating the host school, 71-62, on Saturday. The teams were
deadlocked at 32-32 after 20 minutes, but the Cardinals found
a way to win in the second half using a 16-8 advantage over the
final 5:30 to claim the victory. Nova Southeastern took a five-point
lead in the first five minutes of the second half only to see
the Cardinals come back and tie the game for the fifth time in
the second half at 48-48 at the 8:40 mark. The Cards took their
first lead of the second at 55-54 on a Jessica Wilson
(Martin, Tenn./Westview) triple, which sparked the game-deciding
rally over the final 5:30.
The Cards were 6-of-6 at the foul line
over the run and shot 19-of-24 (79.2%) from the line for the game.
In addition, SVSU was 22-of-56 (39.3%) from the floor and 8-of-23
(34.8%) from the arc. Wilson set a season-high with 19 points
and was 5-of-9 from the arc. She also had three assists in 38
minutes. Sophomore Sara Bilunes (Holt, Mich.)
matched Wilson with 19 points and also dished a season-high seven
assists in 38 minutes. Freshman Kali Briggs (Jackson,
Mich./Vandercook Lake) recorded a double-double with 17 points
and 13 boards in 40 minutes. She was 5-of-8 from the floor and
7-of-10 at the line. Senior Jennifer Hagstrom
(Cadillac, Mich.) played 21 minutes and recorded five
of SVSU's eight blocked shots and also pulled down five boards.
SVSU (2-3) opens GLIAC play at home on
Thursday, December 2 with a 5:30 pm tip with Wayne State.
