Runs By Cardinals, 78-58
Statistics
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University's
women's basketball team fell to the visiting Northern Michigan
Wildcats by a count of 78-58 on Thursday (Feb. 17). The Cardinals
trailed by 11 at the halftime break but could not overcome that
deficit, ultimately falling victim to a deep NMU squad.
Freshman guard Kara Kinzer
(Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) dropped
in 15 points to lead the Cardinals in defeat, connecting on 5-of-14
field goal attempts. Junior Stephanie Hass (Harbor
Springs, Mich./Harbor Light Christian) put up a season-high
14 points on 7-of-16 shooting and also led the team with four
steals. Sophomore Sam Foggio (Farmington
Hills, Mich./Mercy) added nine points, while freshman Kali
Briggs (Jackson, Mich./Vandercook Lake) chipped
in with seven points and a team-high five rebounds.
Tiffany Grubaugh led Northern with
17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while Holly Cole added 14 points
for the victors. Cole shot 4-of-7 from three-point range and 5-of-9
overall. Allison Carroll dropped in 12 points and pulled down
a game-high six boards. Emily Belland and Maria Kasza each added
six rebounds, as well.
The loss drops the Cardinals to
7-16 (3-12 GLIAC), while NMU improves to 14-9 (7-8 GLIAC). The
Cardinals return to action on Saturday at 1:00p.m. when they play
host to Michigan Tech.
