Falter at Northern Michigan, 79-68
Statistics
MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's
basketball team dropped a 79-68 road clash against Northern Michigan
on Monday (Feb. 14). The Cardinals trailed 41-34 at halftime and
could not close the gap after the break as NMU outscored SVSU
38-34 in the second stanza.
Sophomore guard Sara Bilunes
(Holt, Mich.) led SVSU in defeat with a career-high
24 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Bilunes also tallied four steals,
four rebounds and three assists. Freshman Kara Kinzer
(Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) pitched
in with 22 points, including 6-of-12 shooting from three-point
range. Freshman Domonique Desira (Northville,
Mich.) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Cardinals.
Tiffany Grubaugh led Northern with
25 points and seven rebounds, while Maria Kasza added 18 points,
six rebounds and five assists. Tera Opperman chipped in with 11
points and seven rebounds, while Allison Carroll pulled down seven
boards.
The loss drops the Cardinals to
7-15 (3-11 GLIAC), while NMU improves to 13-9 (6-8 GLIAC). The
Cardinals and Wildcats square off again on Thursday (Feb. 17)
in University Center at 5:30 p.m.
