CARDS SANK
BY #9 LAKE SUPERIOR STATE, 76-54
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The cold weather only
seemed to heat up the Lake Superior State Lakers on Saturday as
they beat Saginaw Valley State, 76-54, and improved to 14-3, 9-0
in the GLIAC. The ninth-ranked Lakers had a stellar performance
from Becky Marquardt-King who posted a double-double with 25 points
and 13 rebounds. The Cards kept the game close early with three
lead changes and three ties in the first half, but LSSU had the
hot touch in the second half outscoring SVSU, 38-23.
Sophomore guard Lisa Collison
(Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) and sophomore guard Sara
Bilunes (Holt, Mich.) each led SVSU with 17
points. Bilunes was 8-of-14 from the field and played 36 minutes
before fouling out. She added five assists and one block. Collison
was 7-of-22 shooting including 3-of-10 from the arc. She added
four assists and played all 40 minutes. Freshman forward Domonique
Desira (Northville, Mich.) led SVSU with 12
rebounds with seven offensive boards. She also scored six points
and recorded two blocks before fouling out in 24 minutes. SVSU
(5-11, 2-7 GLIAC) will have another tough road game on Thursday,
January 27 as they tip-off from Michigan Tech at 5:30 pm.
