TOUGH BEFORE FALLING, 83-48, AT HILLSDALE

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State Lady
Cards had a solid first half of basketball inside Jesse Philips
Arena on Saturday, but the second half proved to be their demise
in an 83-48 setback to Hillsdale College. The Cards were trailing
the unbeaten Chargers, 30-22, after one half of basketball and
holding Hillsdale to 40.6 percent shooting from the field. In
the second half, Hillsdale turned it up a notch and shot an impressive
65.6 percent (21-of-32), including a blistering 9-of-14 (.643)
from behind the arc.
The Cardinals struggled to find the shooting
touch that they displayed on Thursday at home against Wayne State
in a win. SVSU shot 36.0 percent (18-of-50) for the contest and
were 8-of-23 (.348) from the three-point arc. SVSU committed 22
turnovers and the Chargers scored 25 points off turnovers. The
Chargers also got a big contribution off the bench outscoring
SVSU's bench, 38-8. Sophomore guard Lisa Collison
(Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) led the Cards with 16 points
on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor. She also chipped in six boards
in 40 minutes. Senior guard Jessica Wilson (Martin,
Tenn./Westview) was the other player in double figures with
13 points in 35 minutes. Freshman forward Kali Briggs
(Jackson, Mich./Vandercook Lake) led all players with
12 rebounds.
SVSU (3-4, 1-1 GLIAC) will next entertain
Grand Valley State on Thursday, December 9 for a 5:30 tipoff.
