Statistics
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University women's basketball team fought hard and earned a 66-52
victory over the University of Findlay Oilers on Saturday (Jan.
15). The Cardinals took a slim 20-18 lead into the halftime break
and outscored the Oilers 46-34 in the second half to earn the
win.
SVSU got outstanding efforts from
sophomore Lisa Collison (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage)
and freshman Domonique Desira (Northville,
Mich.), who each scored eight points and pulled down a game-high
10 rebounds. Desira's eight points are a career high. Collison's
10 boards are a career high, as are her game-high seven assists.
Sophomore Sara Bilunes (Holt, Mich.)
topped all scorers with 21 points, including 9-of-10 shooting
from the free-throw line. Senior Jessica Wilson (Martin,
Tenn./Westview) dropped in 19 points, including 5-of-11 shooting
from three-point range. Freshman Kali Briggs (Jackson,
Mich./Vandercook Lake) chipped in with seven points and eight
rebounds to aid the Cardinal cause.
Findlay's Ralphie Beal was the only
Oiler to crack double digits in scoring as she dropped in 14 points.
Kari Weisenburger chipped in with nine points, while Carrie Bergman
added eight points.
The Cardinals held a 42-37 edge
in rebounds, which proved pivotal due to poor shooting on the
part of both teams. SVSU managed just 37.3% shooting, while holding
the Oilers to just 32.7% shooting.
With the win, the Cardinals improve
to 5-9 (2-6 GLIAC) on the season, while Findlay drops to 7-10
(2-6 GLIAC). SVSU returns to the court on Monday (Jan. 17) with
a home clash against Davenport University. Game time is set for
6:30p.m.
