Davenport
Buries SVSU With 3's
Statistics
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University women's basketball team dropped a tough 79-69 decision
to the visiting Davenport Panthers on Monday (Jan. 17). The Cardinals
led for much of the first half before going into the halftime
break down 42-37. After the break, SVSU could not pull any closer
than four points as Davenport fought off every surge with free
throws and three point shooting.
Senior Jessica Wilson (Martin,
Tenn./Westview) continued her torrid scoring pace, pumping
in a game-high 21 points, including five three-point field goals.
Sophomores Lisa Collison (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage)
and Sara Bilunes (Holt, Mich.) each
chipped in with 17 points, while Bilunes tallied game highs of
six assists and four steals. Freshman Domonique Desira
(Northville, Mich.) pulled down a game-high
11 rebounds, tying a career high, while also recording a game-high
and career-high three blocked shots.
Jennifer Rausch posted 20 points
and eight rebounds to lead Davenport to victory. Shannon Callaghan
and Karen Rugless each poured in 13 points, while Jordan Loveberry
added 10 points.
The game was decided in the percentages,
as Davenport outshot SVSU from the field (.443 to .343) and from
three-point range (.371 to .233). The Panthers also controlled
the boards in the absence of Kali Briggs (Jackson,
Mich./Vandercook Lake), the leading rebounder for the Cardinals
and in the GLIAC, holding a 52-40 advantage on the glass.
The loss drops the Cardinals to
5-10 on the season, while Davenport improves to 12-7. SVSU returns
to action on Saturday (Jan. 22) with a road game against Lake
Superior State at 1:00p.m.
