Cardinals cruise past
Rochester (Mich.) in home opener, 92-38
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State improved to 2-0
this season with a 92-38 win over visiting Rochester College on
Tuesday night at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena inside the Ryder
Center. The Cards began the game on a 12-0 run and never trailed
in the contest building their lead to as many as 35 points in
the first half.
SVSU then extended their lead in the second
half and outscored the Warriors, 41-20, in the second 20 minutes.
Sophomore Valerie Smith (Owosso, Mich.) led all scorers with 18
points. Smith was 7-of-13 from the field including 4-of-8 from
the three-point arc. Smith also tied for the team lead with seven
rebounds.
Senior Jennifer Brogger (Harbor Springs,
Mich.) scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half as finished
with a team-high six steals. Sophomore Stephanie Hass (Harbor
Springs, Mich./Harbor Light Christian) pumped in 14 points on
7-of-11 shooting. SVSU shot 55.0 percent from the floor and 42.1
percent from beyond the arc. SVSU will host the Farm Bureau Insurance
Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Cards battle Spring Arbor
on Friday at 7:30 pm and face Cornerstone on Saturday at 6:00
pm.
