SVSU FALLS TO RED-HOT
MICHIGAN TECH, 92-55, IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON ROAD GAME
HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Cardinals ran
into a tough Huskies squad on Saturday from the SDC Gymnasium
and left with their worst defeat of the season, 92-55, falling
to 16-10 overall and 8-9 in the GLIAC. The Huskies jumped out
to a 7-0 start and held a 13-2 lead in the first four minutes.
The Cardinals trailed 34-13 with 7:03 to go in the first half
and were behind 46-24 at intermission. The Cardinals were outscored
46-31 in the second half.
The Huskies scored 29 points off 19 SVSU
turnovers and outboarded the Cardinals, 39-24. SVSU shot 34 percent
(18-of-53) while Michigan Tech burned the nets at a 60 percent
clip (33-of-55). Andrea Novak led the Huskies with 33 points and
seven rebounds. She was also 14-of-20 from the field. SVSU shot
80 percent at the charity stripe (16-of-20) as Sara Bilunes
(Holt, Mich.) was 6-of-6. Junior Jennifer Hagstrom
(Cadillac, Mich.) scored 16 points to go with five boards
and two blocks. Senior Jennifer Brogger (Harbor
Springs, Mich.) led SVSU with 18 points (7-of-13 FG) but
committed five turnovers. The Cardinals await a possible GLIAC
Tournament berth as they prepare for their regular-season finale
a week from today at home against Lake Superior State. Tip-off
is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
