Lady Cardinals Defeat
Lakers, 53-44
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw
Valley State University women’s basketball team defeated
Mercyhurst 53-44 for their tenth victory of the season on Thursday
(Jan. 8). The win moves the current Cardinal winning streak to
three games, and four out of their last five.
SVSU trailed 39-38 with just under
four minutes remaining in the game when Jennifer Brogger
(Harbor Springs, Mich.) ran off eleven straight points
in a three minute stretch to put the Cardinals up seven. Brogger
led Saginaw Valley with 20 points and was 7-7 from the free throw
line. SVSU set a school record by converting 17 of 17 free-throws.
The Lakers were paced by Julie Anderson
who scored a game high 22 points. Cassie Seth had 13 points and
eleven rebounds.
The win moves the Cardinals to 10-3
(2-2 GLIAC) on the season, while Mercyhust falls to 0-11 (0-4
GLIAC). SVSU returns to the court on Saturday (January 10) when
they play host Gannon for a 1:00 pm contest.
