Lady Cardinals
Fall to Ferris State, 90-88
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University
women’s basketball team dropped a 90-88 contest to the visiting
Bulldogs on Saturday (December 13). The loss was the Cardinals’
second straight loss this season, after starting the season with
a six-game winning streak.
SVSU trailed 46-44 going into the
halftime, but the Cards’ came out of the break and jumped
out to a five-point lead. Ferris rallied back to take the lead
74-73 and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way. The
Cardinals fought back late and had a chance to win on a last second
buzzer beater that rimmed out.
The Cardinals were led by senior
Jennifer Brogger (Harbor Springs, Mich.),
who posted a game-high 27 points against her former team. Sophomore
Valerie Smith (Owosso, Mich.) tacked
on 26 points and game-high eleven rebounds, while sophomore Jennifer
Hagstrom (Cadillac, Mich.) threw in ten points
and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Bulldogs placed five players in double
figures in the scoring column, with Erin Miller leading the way
with 19 points, Stephanie Beaner recorded 16 points, and Molly
Potvin scored 15 points.
The loss drops the Cardinals to
6-2 (1-2 GLIAC) on the season, while Ferris State moves to 7-2
(3-1 GLIAC). SVSU returns to the court on Monday (December 15)
when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 6:00 pm contest.
