Cardinals Dump U of M-Dearborn,
89-35
DEARBORN, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
women's basketball team tallied 47 points off the bench, en route
to an 89-35 victory at University of Michigan-Dearborn, Saturday
(December 7).
SVSU relied on balanced scoring, scrappy
defense and rebounding to take a 43-12 halftime lead, never letting
the Wolves draw any closer. SVSU has now won all fourteen meetings
with U of M-Dearborn, posting a flawless 14-0 all-time mark.
Junior Gretchen Klein (Colon,
Mich.) led SVSU with 14 points and nine rebounds, shooting
6-of-8 from the field. Senior Erin Johnson (Saginaw,
Mich./Heritage HS) posted 14 points and eight boards, while
Junior Nicole Joffrion (Otsego, Mich.) rang up 10
points for the Cardinals.
Freshman Stephanie Hass (Harbor
Springs, Mich./Harbor Light Christian HS), sophomore Nicole
Pfenninger (Bay City, Mich./Western HS), and sophomore
Jennifer Hagstrom (Cadillac, Mich.) rounded out
the Cardinals' scoring assault with a combined 25 points.
SVSU dominated in just about every offensive
category, holding a significant 68-33 advantage in rebounds and
a 21-3 edge in assists. The Cardinals also dominated U of M-Dearborn
with a 47-0 advantage in bench scoring and a 12-0 edge in points
off turnovers. For the game the Wolves shot an abysmal 16 percent
shooting.
The Cardinals improve to 2-4 (0-3 GLIAC),
while U of M-Dearborn falls to 3-10. SVSU returns to the court
Saturday (December 14) with a 3:00p.m. game at the University
of Charleston.
