Cardinals Cruise Past Rochester, 79-36

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.. - The Saginaw Valley State women's basketball team cruised to a 79-36 route over Rochester College in non-conference action Friday (Dec. 20). With the victory, the Cardinals improved to 4-6 (0-3 GLIAC), while Rochester fell to 4-11 on the season.
    Freshman Stephanie Hass (Harbor Springs, Mich./Harbor Light Christian HS) poured in a season-high 19 points, draining 8-15 from the field. Senior Erin Johnson (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) added ten points, freshman Elicia Kinner (Pellston, Mich.) had nine off the bench, and junior Gretchen Klein (Colon, Mich.) finished with nine points and ten rebounds.
    SVSU used a big first half run to take a 55-18 advantage into the break. In the second half, the Cardinals pushed their advantage thanks to the help of a deep bench, which saw twelve different Cardinals score. SVSU added to its advantage with the help of 38 points in the paint and 38 points off turnovers.
    SVSU shot 43 percent from the field, sinking 34-of-79 shots. The Cardinals hit only three of their eight three-point field goal attempts but made 8-of-10 free throws. Meanwhile, Rochester made just 27.5 percent of its shots (14-of-51), and hit just 3-of-12 from three-point range and 5-of-11 from the foul line.
    The Cardinals will host Lewis University Saturday (Dec. 28) at 1:00 p.m. in the James E. O’Neill Arena.
