Cardinals Clipped By Northwood In Season Finale, 72-70

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - La’Tonya Crawford’s lay-up with six seconds remaining lifted Northwood to a 72-70 victory over Saginaw Valley State, Saturday afternoon (Feb. 22) in the James E. O’Neill Arena.
    Freshman Elicia Kinner (Pellston, Mich.) led the Cardinal attack with 17 points and three steals. Sophomore’s Brandi Phillips (Frankenmuth, Mich.) and Jennifer Hagstrom (Cadillac, Mich.) added 14 and twelve points respectively.
As senior’s playing in their final game for SVSU, Erin Johnson (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) finished with eight points, four steals, and three rebounds, while Angie Smith (Perry, Mich.) totaled six points, three steals, and a career–high seven assists.
    Valerie Smith led all scorers with 24 points and eleven rebounds for the Wolves, while Maureen Elliott added 12 points and six rebounds.
    The loss dropped the Cardinals final record to 4-22 (0-18 GLIAC) on the season, while Northwood finished at 9-17 (5-13 GLIAC).
