Cardinals Defeated By Michigan Tech, 70-58

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Andrea Novak scored a game-high 24 points for the Huskies, and Jill Lehner added ten as Michigan Tech beat SVSU 70-58 Thursday night (Feb. 6). The loss was the Cardinals’ eleventh straight and drops their overall record to 4-17
(0-13 GLIAC) on the season, while the Huskies improved to 12-10 (7-6 GLIAC).
Tech went up by a score of 41-26 at halftime and that was enough, as they held on for the victory. SVSU shot only 33 percent on the night, compared to Tech’s 43 percent. However the rebounding mark was even on the night, as both team ripped down 41 boards, while the Cards outshot the Huskies at the charity stripe 92% (11-12) to 75% (9-12).
Senior Erin Johnson (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) paced the Cardinals with 18 points and eleven boards, while going 3-6 from three-point range. Freshman Elicia Kinner (Pellston, Mich.) recorded 14 points, while Stephanie Haas (Harbor Springs, Mich./Harbor Light Christian) came in off the bench and contributed eight points.
The Cardinals return to the hardwood Saturday afternoon (Jan. 18) at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to Northern Michigan.
