Cardinals Fall to Lakers

ERIE, Pa. - Katie Lorincz scored a game-high 23 points and added seven assists as the Mercyhurst College Lakers defeated Saginaw Valley State University 72-55. It was the Cardinals’ fourth straight defeat.
   SVSU (4-10, 0-6) held a 25-24 lead at halftime, but saw the Lakers use a 13-0 run late in the second half to put the game away. Mercyhurst (4-11, 1-6) shot 38.8 percent from the floor while the Cardinals connected on 33.3 percent of their shots in the contest.
   Erin Johnson (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) was the only Cardinal to score in double digits with 16 points. Jennifer Hagstrom (Cadillac, Mich.) posted a game-high 13 rebounds, while Gretchen Klein (Colon, Mich.) scored eight points and tallied nine rebounds.
   SVSU was plagued by 31 turnovers while the Lakers committed 17. The Cardinals held a 46-40 advantage in rebounds but dished out just seven assists for the game.
The Cardinals return to action on Thursday (Jan. 16) when they host the Michigan Tech Huskies at 5:30 p.m.
