Foil Cardinals, 75-47
ERIE, Pa. – The Saginaw Valley State women’s basketball
team dropped a 75-47 decision to Gannon University on Thursday
(January 9). Gannon held a 44-27 half-time lead and never allowed
the Cardinals to get closer than 15 points after the break.
Freshman Stephanie Hass
(Harbor Springs, Mich./Harbor Light Christian HS) topped
SVSU with nine points, while senior Angie Stewart
(Perry, Mich.) and sophomore Jennifer Hagstrom
(Cadillac, Mich.) each chipped in with six. Senior Erin
Johnson (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) added a
team-high nine rebounds.
Gannon placed three players in double
figures in the scoring column. Lisa Fairman, Katie Garms, and
Heather Chapman each tossed in twelve points for the Knights.
Melanie Duncan contributed with a game-high nine rebounds.
The Knights held commanding advantages
in rebounds (44-26) and field goal percentage (51.6% to 36.2%),
both proving to be telling statistics. The Cardinals had only
twelve assists, compared to 23 turnovers, while Gannon dished
out 18 assists, compared to 21 turnovers.
The loss is the Cardinals’ third
straight and drops them to 4-9 (0-5 GLIAC), while Gannon moves
to 6-8 (2-4 GLIAC). The Cardinals remain in Erie for a 1:00p.m.
contest against Mercyhurst College on Saturday (January 11).
