Lady Cards Roll Over
Bluefield State, 84-58
BLUEFIELD,
W. Va.. - The Saginaw Valley State women's basketball team cruised
to an 84-58 triumph over Bluefield State College in non-conference
action Tuesday night (Dec. 17).
Senior Erin Johnson (Saginaw,
Mich./Heritage HS) lead the balanced Cardinal attack with
20 points and eight rebounds. Junior Gretchen Klein
(Colon, Mich.) was once again a force in the paint for
the Cardinals, as she posted 14 points and seven boards. In addition
to Johnson and Klein's 34 points, junior Chrissy Johnstone
(Chesaning, Mich.) scored nine, while sophomores Nicole
Pfenninger (Bay City, Mich./Western HS) and
Krista St. Aubin (Stevenson, Mich./Utica
HS) each added eight.
SVSU used a big first half run to take
a 45-28 advantage into the break. In the second half, the Cardinals
pushed their advantage thanks to the help of a deep bench, which
saw eleven different players score in the game.
SVSU shot a season-high 48.3 percent
from the field, sinking 30-of-62 shots. The Cardinals hit only
three of their 15 three-point field goal attempts but made 21-of-26
free throws. Meanwhile, Bluefield made just 27.3 percent of its
shots (23-of-84), and hit just 3-of-18 from three-point range
and 9-of-15 from the foul line.
With the victory, the Cardinals improved
to 3-6 (0-3 GLIAC) and concluded their West Virginia stint, finishing
1-2.
The Cardinals will host Rochester College
Friday (Dec. 20) at 2:00 p.m. in the James E. O’Neill Arena.
