White
Sets Mark in Win Over Wayne State (Neb.) 65-45
ORLANDO, Fla. Senior Jenny White (Oxford) set
a new school record for career three-pointers after connecting
on five of nine attempts to propel SVSU past Wayne State (Neb.)
65-45 in the Disney Tournament in Orlando, Florida. White now
has 130 three-point field goals in her career, eclipsing the mark
of 128, set by Lisa Anderson. White also finished the game with
a team-high ten rebounds to go with four assists, three steals,
and two blocked shots.
The game was knotted 25-25 at halftime, before
the Cardinals dug in their heels. SVSU went on a 16-0 run to start
the second half, and held the Wildcats to just two points until
the 7:03 mark of the second half. The Cardinals used hot shooting
in the second half, connecting on 52% of their field goals in
the second stanza. SVSU shot 47% (8-of-17) from three point range
for the game.
The Cardinals received a solid performance from
Kathryn Williams (Detroit/Martin Luther King) who
finished with eleven points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Trish Moody (Saginaw/Swan Valley) added nine points
and seven rebounds. As a team the Cardinals dished out 19 assists,
forced the Wildcats into 14 turnovers, and came up with nine steals.
SVSU returns to action Wednesday (December 19)
against St. Cloud State at 1:00 p.m. in the second game of the
Disney Classic. The Cardinals next home game is set for December
29 when SVSU hosts Edinboro (Pa.) at 1:00 p.m.
