Cards Can't Contain Eagles

University Center, Mich.- Ashland University's Jackie Mason scored 14 points, pulled-down 12 rebounds and had five blocks as the visiting Eagles downed the Lady Cards 63-49 in SVSU's home opener.  Mason was a major presence inside, turning away five Cardinal shots in the first half, limiting the Cardinals to jump shots from the perimeter and forced shots underneath.
     The Cardinals trailed 26-19 at the half, shooting just 25.7 percent from the field and shot 28.2 percent for the game.  Unlike the first half, SVSU was able to get to the free-throw line 19 times in the second frame, but connected on just six for a .316 percentage.  
     Kathryn Williams (Detroit/Martin Luther King) led all scorers with 16 and shared the team rebound high with Jenny White (Oxford) at eight.  
     Ashland improved its overall record to 6-1, (1-0 GLIAC), while the Cardinals moved to 4-3 (1-2 GLIAC).
