Use 12-2 Run to Take GLIAC Opener
Detroit, Mich.- A see-saw battle which
had seven ties and just as many lead changes, the GLIAC-opener
for the Lady Cardinals ended in a 76-67 loss at the hands of the
Wayne State University Warriors in Detroit on Saturday. WSU
(5-1, 0-1 GLIAC) was able to pull-away from SVSU mid-way through
the second half as WSU's Anavia McClure scored all seven of her
points in a 12-2 run that spanned 4:44. McClure scored all
of her points from the free-throw line in that time span.
Sparking the Warriors to a 36-31
lead at the half was Keneisha Moss who tallied 16 points in the
first frame and 26 for the contest. Moss hit four triples,
all coming in the first half.
Leading the way once again for SVSU
was senior Kathryn Williams (Detroit/Martin Luther King),
whose 18 points and 8 of 9 shooting from the free-throw line were
tops for the Cardinals. Junior Erin Johnson (Saginaw/Heritage)
knocked-down four triples on her way to 14 points and sophomre
Trisha Moody chipped-in 11 for the Cards. Senior Natalie
Novick (Chicago, Ill/Mother McAuley) hauled-down a
career-high 12 rebounds as SVSU out-boarded WSU 45-31 on the contest.
The Cardinals will travel to Hillsdale
to take on the Chargers on Monday in a 6pm tip-off.
