Bulldogs Too Much for Cards in Home Finale

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.-  SVSU's Lady Cardinal basketball team closed-out the home portion of their 2001-02 schedule on Saturday, losing 75-55 to Ferris State.  Seven seniors were honored in pregame ceremonies as they played their final contest in front of the O'Neill Arena faithful.
FSU's Debbie Killips paced the Bulldogs with 20 points, while pulling-down eight rebounds, dishing-out six assists and tallying six steals.  Killips became the ninth Bulldog in their history to score 1,000 points in a career when she knocked-down two free throws down the stretch.  Ferris had three players in double-digits as Lucy DeMartin poured-in 18 and Bridget Horwitz had 16.
Bridgett Lamar (Ypsilanti) had a fine home finale for the Cardinals, scoring 16 points and pulling-down eight boards.  Jenny Brown (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) was also in double-digits, chipping-in 10 points for SVSU.
Brown, Lamar, Tania Fliter (Griffith, Ind.), Natalie Novick (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley), Stacey Premo (Saginaw/Swan Valley), Kathryn Williams (Detroit/Martin Luther King) and Jenny White (Oxford) all played their final game at home.  The seven seniors combined to score 46 of SVSU's 55 points.
The loss brings the Cardinals' record to 9-15 (3-13 GLIAC) as they head into the final weekend of the season.  SVSU will head up to Sault Ste. Marie to battle the Lakers on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before finishing the season at Northwood on Saturday at 6 p.m.
