Cardinals Stop Skid

University Center, Mich.- The Lady Cardinals showed what they were made of tonight, topping Grand Valley State 72-70 on Thursday. The Cardinals started slow, trailing 11-3 four minutes into the first half. SVSU closed the half on a 34-16 run, putting them up 37-27.
     The momentum carried into the second half for the Cardinals, as they led most of the way. Jenny Brown (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) iced the game down the stretch, scoring the final six points of the game, all on free-throws.
     Brown led the Cardinals in scoring with 19 points, shooting five for six from the field and seven for nine from the free throw line. Jenny White (Oxford) scored 16 points on the night, while dishing-out eight assists. Erin Johnson (Saginaw/Saginaw Heritage HS) also reached double-digits in points with 11..
     For the Lakers, Diana Voikos had a game-high 29 points, while Julie Zeeff had 13 points and six blocks.
     The win stops an eight-game losing streak and gives the Cardinals a record of 9-14 (3-12 GLIAC). The loss drops the Lakers to 12-12 (6-10 GLIAC). The Cardinals host their final home game of the season on Sat. as they take on Ferris State at 1:00 p.m.
