Turnovers Costing SVSU
ERIE, PA –
Turnovers plagued Saginaw Valley State University for the second
straight game in a 74-49 loss at Gannon University Thursday.
The Lady Cardinals coughed up 34
turnovers, including 19 in the second half, as the Knights blew
the game open. Only one of the nine players used by second-year
coach Lori Flaherty committed at least one miscue.
SVSU trailed by only three points
at halftime, 29-26, but shot only 29 percent after intermission.
Gannon, meanwhile, shot 51.6 percent in the second half.
Senior Sue Karber (Grosse Point/North)
was the only Cardinal to score double figures, finishing with
18 points. Senior Jill Herbig (Hamilton) added nine points, eight
rebounds, five assists and five steals. Senior Andrea Jones (Swartz
Creek) chipped in eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds and
SVSU had a 37-29 edge on the glass.
The Knights were led by Kristin
Roseberry with 23 points and Jacki Windon with 19.
SVSU shot only 36 percent from the
floor for the game, including just 2 of 12 from the three-point
arc. Gannon finished with 43 percent from the floor and had a
big advantage at the free throw line, making 19 of 23, while the
visitors hit 11 of 13.
The Cardinals dropped to 3-4 overall
and 1-2 in the GLIAC North Division, while Gannon improved to
5-1 overall and 2-1 in the South.
Saginaw Valley plays at Mercyhurst
College on Saturday.
