Ferris Beats SVSU
UNIVERSITY
CENTER – Ferris State University put on a long-range shooting
performance in the first half and cruised to a 79-54 win at Saginaw
Valley State University Saturday in O'Neill Arena.
The Bulldogs made seven of 16 three
pointers in the first 20 minutes, outscoring the Cardinals 40-22.
The game was tied 10-10, but an
11-2 scoring run by FSU virtually decided the game as the margin
was never smaller than nine the rest of the half.
Sophomore Jenny White (Oxford) heated
up for SVSU in the second half, scoring 17 of her game-high 19
points. She made four triples in the half, and led the Lady Cards
with seven rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots.
Senior Jill Herbig (Hamilton), playing
her final collegiate game, sat out 10 minutes in the second half
with a twisted ankle. She returned to action, but managed only
four points after netting 10 in the first half.
Ferris was led by Tianna Kirkland
with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Jen Newsome hit four triples
and finished with 14 points.
SVSU committed 30 turnovers, the
fourth straight game with at least that many, while the visitors
had only 20 and owned a 42-33 rebounding edge.
The Bulldogs improved to 20-5 overall
and 16-3 in the GLIAC North Division, while SVSU closed the season
by dropping its 11th straight game to fall to 8-18 overall and
4-15 in the league.
