Head Coach
SVSU Cardinal Volleyball

Will Stanton was named the seventh head coach in the history of Cardinal volleyball on February 4, 2003. He will take over a program that has posted an all-time record of 282-449 (89-251 in conference play) in its 22-year history and has never finished higher than fifth place in conference play.
Stanton has served as head coach at Mott Community College the last four years where he led the Bears to a 116-90 record, including a 40-22 conference mark. During his time at Mott, the Bears never finished worse than fourth place in the MCCAA.
“I am very excited about this opportunity with Saginaw Valley State,” said Stanton. “We have a lot of work to do, but I’m confident we can compete with the best teams in the conference. To be successful in this league you must also be competitive nationally, and I feel we have the ability to accomplish that.”
From 1993-2001 he was the head coach at Lake Fenton high school where he guided the team to the 1998 Michigan Class C state championship after finishing runner-up in 1997. Following the 1998 season he was named the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Stanton has never had a losing season as a head coach at the high school or college level.
“We are very excited to be able to find someone as qualified as William to take over our volleyball program,” stated SVSU Director of Athletics Griz Zimmermann. “He has proven his ability to capture success on every level he has coached.”
Stanton earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Business from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. In addition to his coaching duties at SVSU, Stanton works in the ITS department at SVSU.
