Cards Drop GLIAC Opener to Northwood

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State women's volleyball team unveiled their newly renovated Cardinal Gym on Tuesday night against rival Northwood and the visitors spoiled any celebration with a 30-24, 30-20, 30-22 win over the Cardinals. The Timberwolves hitting was on target throughout the match and particularly in the third game. NU hit .410 as a team and .500 in the final game to seal the win.
    Saginaw Valley State had two players reach double figures in kills with Suzanne Beaver (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) tallying 13 and Sarah Redoute (Clinton Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) collecting twelve. Redoute hit .458 for the match as Beaver hit .308 with five digs. The Cards had two more total kills, 42-40, but were hurt by 19 service errors with only two service aces. Amy Howard (Cass City, Mich.) had 37 assists for SVSU. Gorana Maricic led all players with 16 kills and hit .500 overall.
    The Cardinals (6-8, 0-1 GLIAC) will host #13 Grand Valley State on Friday at 7:00 pm.
