Sweep Pair of Matches in Day Two at AmericInn Bash
MANKATO, Minn. – What a difference a year makes for the
Saginaw Valley State volleyball squad. The Cardinals won a total
of two matches in 2004 and after a pair of wins on Saturday at
the AmericInn Back to School Bash their record stands at 3-1.
SVSU took down the host school, Minnesota State-Mankato, in the
first match by the game scores of 15-30, 30-26, 30-24, 21-30 and
15-10. Sophomore Laura Schultz (Marysville,
Mich.) hit .270 for the match with 13 kills and four block
assists. Junior Suzanne Beaver (Battle Creek,
Mich./Harper Creek) added 15 kills and 14 digs for SVSU.
Freshman Sarah Redoute (Clinton Twp., Mich./L'Anse
Creuse) led the squad with 17 kills and added 14 digs.
The nightcap was another victory over
Bemidji State whom the team defeated 3-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Cards won by game scores of 30-18, 30-28, 24-30 and 30-22.
SVSU hit .165 as a team as Redoute led all players with 16 kills
and also hit .267 with 10 digs. SVSU hit .357 in the fourth game
with 15 kills and five errors in 28 attacks. Sophomore Danielle
Dryer (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley)
tallied 10 kills in the second match.
