Cards Top UM-Dearborn 3-0
in Home Opener
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University
volleyball team made quick work of the University of Michigan–Dearborn
in their home opener on Tuesday (September 14) evening. The Cardinals
won by a 3-0 count, taking the first two games by a score of 30-25
and taking the third game 30-22. The Cardinals fell behind 25-20
in the first game before rattling off ten consecutive points behind
the outstanding serving of senior Megan Pendleton
(Belding, Mich.).
Senior Valarie Lyczkowski
(Temperance, Mich./Bedford), sophomore Rachel
Pelhank (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and freshman
Laura Shultz (Marysville, Mich.) led
the Cardinals in victory with six kills each, while senior Desiree
Betts (Livonia, Mich.) racked up a match-high
18 digs. Freshman Jessica Conley (St. Johns,
Mich.) played well for the Cardinals, assisting on 25 of
the Cardinals’ 30 total kills.
Marlo Miller and Lynnea Harris each
managed a match-high ten kills in defeat for UM–Dearborn.
Renee Laidler recorded a match-high 27 assists on the evening.
SVSU ups their record to 2-10, while
UM–Dearborn falls to 9-6. The Cardinals return to the court
on Friday (September 17) with a home match against Lake Superior
State University. Play is set to begin at 7:00p.m.
